The Bicycle Shop is the oldest bike shop in Alaska, founded in 1964 by Mike and Kay Shupe. Since, the business has grown to fill the needs of the diverse Anchorage cycling community and serves riders of all skill levels, ages, means, and interests. The Bicycle Shop provides sales and service at three locations in Anchorage and has proudly stocked Specialized bicycles since the early 1980’s.
Specialized has donated Pitch 27.5″ mountain bikes and helmets for GRIT. Specialized is a global brand with a strong focus on women’s cycling products as well as leading edge designs in all disciplines. Specialized Bicycle Components is headquartered in Morgan Hill, CA. Lael has been riding Specialized bikes since 2015 and the brand excitedly agreed to support the GRIT program in Anchorage in the first season.
Revelate Designs donates custom panniers for each rider, in an interactive experience about design, manufacturing, and business. Revelate Designs is the leading brand in ultralight bikepacking gear around the world. The company is based in Anchorage, AK just around the corner from The Bicycle Shop.
PEARL iZUMi donates jackets, t-shirts and gloves. They funded the video about Anchorage GRIT season three 2019 and are excited to help us to share this story and encourage other communities to start similar programs.

Shimano, the leading bicycle component company in the world, has offered to fund travel expenses for a future exchange GRIT rider. Next season we hope to welcome Aliona, a 14-year-old girl from Kyrgyzstan to ride with us in Alaska.
Bike Anchorage is a non-profit that aims to make Anchorage, AK a bike-friendly city where it is safe and practical to “go by bike”. Bike Anchorage is the city’s largest bicycle advocacy organization and works through education, advocacy, and encouragement. To support Anchorage GRIT, Bike Anchorage is providing instruction on safe riding, insurance and managing our finances.
