Dear new GRIT girls, junior mentors and adult mentors,
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the closure of schools and cancellation of all after school activities in the Anchorage School District, we have to postpone the 2020 Anchorage GRIT season until the spring of 2021.
Initially, we considered reducing the group rides to 1×1 or 2×2 mentoring, but feel that the most responsible choice is to wait until it’s safe to meet as a larger group.
To all the new GRIT girls, we really hope that you’ll participate in the program in 2021. We’re excited to meet you and get to know you better. We already have new Specialized Pitch mountain bikes with your names on them. Please come ride with us in 2021!
To all GRIT girls from previous years, we highly encourage you to continue riding your bike and spending time outside with family and members from your households. Please do your best to practice recommended social-distancing. It’s a hard time for community projects, but our health and safety must be the priority during this outbreak. We’re so excited to get back together when we can. We’d love to host a GRIT alumni overnight ride and campout in July 2020 if it’s safe to meet by then. In the meantime, we’re working on making an online GRIT challenge so we can virtually interact and encourage one another– we’ll keep you posted.
To all of the mentors, both student and adult, thank you so much for all of your dedication and positive energy. We could not do this without you. It’s truly inspiring to have so many unique role-models.
The most important part about GRIT is the time we spend riding together outside. The current situation is a setback, but it won’t last forever. We’re so excited to get back out there as a group when we get the green light from the Center for Disease Control and the Anchorage School District.
