Anchorage GRIT is a bike mentorship program for middle school girls in Anchorage, AK. The six week program includes two to three weekly rides to learning and volunteering experiences with lessons in bicycle maintenance, safe riding, route planning, bikepacking, stretching and fitness, bag fabrication; and volunteering opportunities at Off The Chain Bicycle Collective and Anchorage Parks and Recreation. The program culminates in a three-day capstone bikepacking adventure. The final ride will leave Anchorage via bike paths and surface streets and will end on a dirt road to a public use cabin at the far end of Eklutna Lake, about 45 miles from Anchorage.
GRIT launched in Anchorage on Sunday April 9, 2017 and continues through the school year in late May. The program is made possible with the generous support from The Bicycle Shop in Anchorage, AK and donations from Specialized Bicycle Components, Revelate Designs, and GU Energy.
